The New York State Academy of Family Physicians (NYSAFP) announced recently the winner of an award for excellence in family medicine in New York. The NYSAFP’s Family Physician of the Year Award recognizes Scott L. Gross, MD, FAAFP as an exemplary member of the family medicine profession who has worked tirelessly to ensure the highest quality of compassionate care for his patients during his career.

Dr. Gross was nominated by his patients and colleagues for his unwavering commitment to comprehensive, patient-centered care spanning more than three decades. As Chair of Family Medicine at Huntington Hospital, Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, mentor, and practicing physician, he has devoted his career to serving patients across every stage of life while maintaining the increasingly-rare distinction of caring for his patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings. He graduated from Stony Brook University School of Medicine of the State University of NY and received his undergraduate degree from Binghamton University of the State University of NY.

Whether caring for elderly residents in long-term care, supporting children and families in the community, communicating with deaf patients through sign language, or personally responding to patient needs at all hours, Dr. Gross is consistently described as a physician who listens attentively and treats every individual with dignity and respect. He also has extensive expertise in travel medicine, having frequently lectured, published on the subject, and is certified by the CDC to provide a full spectrum of travel immunizations. Throughout his distinguished career, his exceptional clinical skill and leadership capabilities, unwavering integrity, and profound compassion embody the highest ideals of family medicine.

Dr. Scott Gross was officially recognized for this honor during NYSAFP’s Congress of Delegates in Albany on May 16th.

NYSAFP represents nearly 6,000 family physicians, residents and students across the State. NYSAFP Family Physicians are board-certified and specialize in family medicine.
