 Albany Family Physician Awarded NYS Academy of Family  Physicians’ 2025 Lifetime Service in Family Medicine Award

The New York State Academy of Family Physicians (NYSAFP) announced today the winner of an award for devotion to the advancement of family medicine (FM) through consistent, outstanding service. The NYSAFP’s Lifetime Service in Family Medicine Award recognizes Jose ‘Jun’ M. David, MD, Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP), who exemplifies the core values of family medicine and has made a lasting impact on the specialty at the national, state, and local levels. Recipients embody the highest ideals of the profession and leave a lasting impact on the health and well-being of countless individuals and families.

Dr. David of the Capital region earned his medical degree from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and completed his residency in FM at Albany Medical College and St. Joseph’s Hospital and Health Center in Syracuse. He has provided full-scope care over the years with a significant out-patient/office, hospital care, and nursing home involvement, as well as work with the Alcohol and Substance Abuse Rehabilitation services through the St. Peter’s SPARC program. Additionally, he has been involved in educating his colleagues on local Suboxone services as well as the newer medical marijuana and recreational marijuana services through Grand Rounds presentations at the local Albany hospitals.

 Below are just a few of the statements made by Dr. David’s patients, colleagues, and students when nominating him for this recognition:

“His patients adore him because he makes himself available, is a great listener, and you leave his office confident no one could do better for you. With his help, I feel as though the sky is the limit.”

“Dr. David has been a preceptor and mentor to and is always eager to share his knowledge and experience. It is remarkable seeing his rapport and relationships with each one of his patients and no one is more deserving of this award and nomination.”

 “He has also been active with his own Filipino Medical community and has lifted their profile in the Albany area. Dr. David is an outstanding physician who has joined several medical missions over the past decade to help people receive medical treatment in other countries.”

 “I think he is the best family physician in Albany because he spends time listening to my condition and figuring out what is the best treatment plan for me. He takes the time to understand not just people’s symptoms, but their lives, treating each person with compassion and empathy that extends far beyond the walls of his practice.”

 “Dr. David would come to talk to our students and treatment professionals at his own time and free of charge. He gave valuable discussions on major public health problems and has contributed to the treatment community significantly.”

 Dr. David will be officially recognized for this honor during NYSAFP’s Congress of Delegates in Albany on May 17th.

 NYSAFP represents nearly 6,000 family physicians, residents and students across the State. NYSAFP Family Physicians are board-certified and specialize in family medicine. Family physicians focus on the whole patient providing care throughout their lifetime. They provide comprehensive healthcare services to treat diseases and injuries in all age groups from newborns to the geriatric population and across all medical fields. Family Physicians focus on prevention, wellness and overall care coordination for patients and family medicine is the only specialty to focus on the care of the entire family unit. Family Physicians are also a main source of primary health care in New York and across the country.
