The New York State Academy of Family Physicians and the American Academy
of Family Physicians believe it is important for primary care physicians
to discuss substance abuse with their patients whenever they believe such
a discussion would be necessary or appropriate. This page will include
resources which we believe may be helpful to physicians and patients in
understanding and addressing issues related to substance abuse.
Teen alcohol and drug abuse is a major medical problem faced by many of
our patients. Some of our members have had to struggle with this issue
as parents. There are no easy answers. The Center for Substance Abuse
Prevention (CSAP) has many free pamphlets to help teens learn more about
this issue. Our state Academy has partnered with CSAP to make these pamphlets
available to our members at no cost.
