Infection Control Course
Infection control is an essential component of any healthcare delivery. Infection control measures can be as simple as hand washing and as sophisticated as high-level disinfection of surgical instruments. Implementing these measures can prevent transmission of disease in health care settings and the community. The Medical Society of the State of New York designates this educational activity for a maximum of 4.0 AMA/PRA Category 1 credit™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
At the conclusion of course work or training on this element, the learner will be able to:
- Recognize the benefit to patients and healthcare workers of adhering to scientifically accepted principles and practices of infection prevention and control;
- Recognize the professional's responsibility to adhere to scientifically accepted infection prevention and control practices in all healthcare settings and the consequences of failing to comply; and
- Recognize the professional's responsibility to monitor infection prevention and control practices of those for whom he or she is responsible and intervene as necessary for compliance and safety.
